PES 2013 Demo Preview
PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) 2013 is the latest title in the football series by Konami. Since 2001, when the first edition in the PES series was released, Japanese developers Konami have been working hard towards a more realistic sporting experience for the player. This year they believe they’ve delivered one of their best packages yet. It’s also believed that the latest instalment will be able to challenge Konami’s biggest competitor. Electronic Arts with the FIFA franchise. The game will be available on Windows, Nintendo 3DS, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360. The downloadable demo is available on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Read on to see whats in the demo, what we think so far and is it worth a download.
Once you’ve downloaded, installed and started the demo you are greeted with a rather bright and colourful main menu. On this menu there are three options to choose from; (At the moment as this is only a demo version) Match, Copa Santander Libertadores and Options. The first two are the gameplay modes. Options is fairly self-explanatory, and only allows you to tweak setting for personal preference.
Within Match you will find similar layouts from previous games and other titles. There are 4 teams to choose from on each Home and Away: (You, the player being Home and the computer Away) Germany, Italy, Portugal and England. Once you’ve selected the teams the pre-match menu appears. This allows you to change the kit of your team, tweak how long and where the game will be, determine how your team plays e.g: defensive, offensive, balanced. And of course the all-important Kick Off button. This then you into the match where the gameplay begins.
Copa Santander Libertadores is very much identical to Match, apart from the choice of teams and venue. (Not available to change in Demo version) Instead of choosing from world teams you have to choose from an independent league. The four teams included are as follows: Santos FC, Fluminense FC, SC Internacional and CR Flamengo. As said before you are then taken into the Pre-Match menu, and then into the match itself.
As this is only the preview version of PES 2013 we cannot review the title, however we will talk about some things we picked up on.
Konami seem to have done a good job of updating the series, by adding new features and updating some older ones they seem to have improved the experience overall.
The demo seems to excel in the visual aspect of things. The menus are colourful, bright and simple to navigate.
The gameplay graphics are superb, standing up to its toughest competitor. FIFA.
However it wasn’t all good.
The controls are very frustrating almost alien to the FIFA fan. You go for one button e.g shoot and end up passing to one of the opposition.
In conclusion PES 2013 is very impressive, it seems to achieve what the developers set out to do. However if you’re a massive FIFA fan we recommend you give this one a miss.
If you just want to check it out for yourself, go over to an online store and download it for free.
