GT Academy 2012
GT Academy 2012 is the latest edition in the series of games aimed at players looking to gain a career in motor racing. The partnership is between Nissan and the guys at Polyphony Digital. This means that you get to race Nissan cars on a Gran Turismo 5 style format. One of the most realistic sims ever. The game is free to download on the PSN store. The size however is giant, coming in at around 3000mb (3GB) so make sure you have enough space on your hard drive, and have enough time to download it.
The game is all about earning yourself a career in racing. Past racers and winners have gone on to compete at Dubai with real Nissan cars, as well as various 24 hour races. At destinations such as Silverstone and Spa. The competition winner gets the chance to race with past GT Academy winners in the same sort of races.
There has already been a patch for the game. Version 1.01 (35MB). Were not really sure what it has improved but it's obviously been done for a reason.
The menu's are to be recognised by GT5 veterans. They are simple, graphical and attractive. They aren't as complex, but then it's not a whole game. The in game menu's are very similar as well, consisting of; Resume, Quick Menu, Exit.
The handling is very much the same as GT5, playing advantage to those who may have the game. And to those who don't, GT Academy acts as a great demo.
Rounds 1-4 are already available to play. It starts of very easy and gets harder as you progress. The rewards are to be recognised by any. GT5 owner. Bronze, Silver and Gold. You must achieve at least one of these or you won't be able to progress through the rounds.
We have to say that this is for the hardcore SimRacer, and not for the casual gamer. It's easier with a wheel, and it's almost needed in the final rounds.
Considering this is kind of a demo yet, not. We can only really comment on minor errors. The main being loading time, it's seriously one of the worst loading time games ever. However there is much to load, so we can't really complain too much.
In conclusion we recommend this if your looking for a career in racing, you have the time and space for the game and accessories that are needed to play it. Plus you meet the requirements.
If not, we recommend you sit this one out.
