Dirt Showdown
Dirt Showdown is the 4th instalment from the Codemasters rally team. It’s said to be more of an arcade style game than the typical sim we’re so used to. We get the impression that they've took this root so that their next title will be completely rally, and no Gymkhana interferences. We did a first look on the demo a little while ago, so let’s see what the full game is like
Once you’ve installed the game and have read the instruction manual while waiting, you are greeted with a well designed main menu, something we’ve become so use to from Codemasters. It’s very much the same as the main menu found in Dirt 3 but with a different background and colour scheme.
On this menu there are 3 different gameplay options to choose from, along with 3 others (Challenges, Options and Extra’s). These 3 include; Showdown Tour, Joyride and Multiplayer. Apart from Joyride all of these are based around three main genre’s. “Race, Crash and Hoon”. The Showdown Tour takes these and puts them into a career, with a tier system. It’s meant to get harder as you progress but the average sim racer will find it very easy. Multiplayer behaves as you would expect, 2 player split screen works well and the online option runs smoothly with no lag problems.
Joyride works differently, this option allows you to drive around Battersea power station and Yokohama Docks. You’re able to complete little challenges and collect items as you go along, it's very much the same as the option that can be found in Dirt 3. This is also the only option that allows you to drive licensed cars, these include Ken Block’s Gymkhana fiesta’s and Subaru’s, a Ford Mustang and the original Mini. Along with many others.
We do apologize for the lack of Pros and Cons. However we will be working towards getting them up very soon.
In an nutshell we like how they've finished off the development, it’s a great get away game from any hardcore rally racing the typical sim racer is used too. It’s a lot more fun than the previous title’s too, you'll find yourself spending many hours smashing up cars, when you should really start working on another review. We do hope that the developers do follow it up how we predicted. But if all you play is Hardcore racing games. Stay away.
