AX.1 Controller Review
The Afterglow AX.1 controller (AX1) is compatible with both Xbox 360 and PC. It’s a wired controller that's been designed with the Xbox in mind, you'll see that all the buttons and colours are familiar to that of a normal Xbox controller. It has an ergonomic design making it comfortable to play with for long hours. It’s made from transparent plastic, allowing you to see the circuit board and Button/Joystick wires inside, even through gameplay. The wired USB feature means that the AX1 is unlikely to turn off unexpectedly, like many other controllers. It also won’t have to be charged up constantly using up valuable batteries. There is of course the fact that a foot might get caught in the wire while walking past or even sat down. But if you set up your console in a corner where people don’t walk past and you sit fairly still without kicking your legs about then it’s not an issue at all. One of the most impressive features of the AX.1 are the lights inside the casing. They're incredible bright and if you game at night are very effective. There are 3 mode for the lights:
1) – Contast - This is where the lights are on as long as the ax1 is plugged into a turned on console.
2) – Off - Never on unless turned to a different setting.
3) – Rumble Lights - This mode is the one that looks the best. Every time the controller vibrates the AX1’s lights will flash in time, especially good for shooter games.
The AX1 is also very good value, selling at around £20. Cheaper than most official Xbox 360 wired controllers, and with all the lighty gadgets it would be expected to sell for much more.
There are however, some minor downsides to the controller, though not many considering all there is to go wrong. The AX.1 isn’t as strong as the typical Xbox 360 controllers and won’t fair too well after being thrown across a room due to extreme frustration. It also won’t do to well after falling off a chest of draws. When this does happen the buttons end up hanging out of it and the sticks turn out damaged, it can still be used though although certain difficulties occur. There is also the issue of the wire getting damaged so it will turn off at the slightest nudge, leading to the throwing of the controller. And occasionally the covers on the sticks break easily. This doesn't affect gameplay but makes the AX.1 look slightly unprofessional.
In conclusion the AX1 is a great controller that works well on both PC and Xbox, there are some slight flaws but they don’t bring down the Pro’s. It’s good looking and great priced making it a must buy.
